Eternal and indestructible, the sea itself is unending and can never truly be conquered. Despite its terror and force, societies have always relied on the sea for trade, food, resources, exploration, and war. The sea has and continues to join cultures at their deepest cores. Our coexistence & dependence on and destruction by the sea has created an inherently conflicted human emotional reaction, with fear and reverence twisted together. My images, both ominous and fantastical, investigate these conflicting emotions and how they are intertwined. Alongside the emotional investigation, I employ photographic processes from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries to reflect the longevity of our constantly evolving relationship with the sea. Though it can be foreboding and monstrous, the sea is also a timeless and endless source of beauty and inspiration - infinitely broadening.
